Singapore Young Photographers' Convention 2011

Singapore Young Photographers' Convention 2011

Event Information
On 22nd October 2011, participants will be involved in a workshop as well as a term-based competition. THe objective of the events is to give youths the opportunites to leaan more about the intricacies of photograpy as well as nuture their passion for the arts to build cohesiveness among the students from different schools. Convention and Competition
Participants will be separated into groups of 4

Grouping will be revealed at the start of the events.

An inspiring, informative and visually arresting talk by a well-known professional photographer, who would share with us his valuable experience and his technical expertise as a professional photographer.

Each participant will have 1 free A4 photo-print as well as receive a certificate of participation.

Each group has to submit a portfolio of 4 photos, one from each member, based of the theme of the competition. All submissions have to reach Anglo-Chinese School by 1pm on the same day.

Judging will be based on the extent of how the group has interpreted the theme through their members' photographs, on the baisi of flow, compostition, arrangement, and other similar elements.

Prizes
Prizes will be presented to the top 3 groups. There are also 2 consolation prizes.
Canon is the proud sponser of the top 3 prizes.
1st Prize: Canon EOS 1100D Kit (EFS 18-55IS-II)
2nd Prize: Canon Powershot A3300
3rd Prize: Canon Powershot A2200
The two consolation prizes are $50 x 4 Cathay photo vouchers (per group)

Eligibility
- Contestants must be aged 13 - 20 and be currently studying and residing in Singapore,
- All participants must be equipped with a digital camera

Deadlines
Participants can register online at sypc2011.blogspot.com
Registration will be closed on 1st Octcober.
All participants must attend the Convention on 22nd October.
Registrations opens at 0800 hours and ends at 0845 hours.
The events will conclude at 1700 hours

All participants must submit a hard copy of the idemnity form, which can be found below, and get it duty signed by their parent/guardian.
Alternatively, they can download the same fom from the website sypc2011.blogspot.com
The form in required for entry into the convention.


Judging Criteria
1. Relevance to theme 
- The photographs submitted must be relevant to the theme. 
If the pictures do not reflect the theme directly, the write-up must be able to clearly explain it. 
30% for this section


2. Creativity 

- Interpretation of theme. 
- Presentation of ideas. 

Composition of the photographs. 
30% for this section
3. Technical Competence

- Focusing, lighting and other aspects of execution.
20%  for this section

4. Quality of write-up 

- The write-up is compulsory.
- It must explain photographs in relation to the theme.
- It should be an interpretation of the what the photographs represent.
20% for this section


Rules & Regulations

1. Participants must be aged between 13 and 20.

2. Each participant must be a Singapore Citizen, a Permanent Resident or a foreign student currently studying and residing in Singapore.

3. Each participant must be a student in a local government or independent school, or an MOE-recognised International School.

4. Each participant must submit the indemnity form upon registration on the event date. Students without an indemnity form will not be allowed to participate.

5. Participants must use a digital camera during the competition. The resolution of the camera should be a minimum of 3 Megapixels or more. Camera phones are not allowed.

6. Storage formats accepted are CF/SD/MMC/XD/SM/MS. Participants using other formats must supply their own relevant adaptors/drives, which are USB-compatible.

7. Participants can use any form of transport at their own expense during the competition. However, they must stay within Singapore and their group.

8. Each group must comprise 4 members.

9. Participants must register online, stating the name of their partner in the registration form. Random pairs of participants will be grouped together to form a group of four. In the case of a solo registration, the organizing committee will arrange for the participants to be in a group of four.

10. Each group will be required to submit 4 photographs interpreting the theme as well as one photo-essay comprising of no more than 100 words.

11. All digital photographs submitted must be new and original and must be taken during the course of the competition. Entries composed must be original, authentic and unpublished material. Participants, who submit images that were shot at an earlier time, or shot by proxies, will be disqualified. The 1-free-print offer provided will be used to print submitted photos in exchange for completed survey forms which will be given to each participant upon registration on the day itself.

12. Photos may be edited with any photo-editing software for minor touch-ups which do not distort the photograph (at most cropping).

13. Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and NYAA reserve the right to keep, publish and distribute the photos submitted for the SYPC.

14. The organisers are not responsible for any lost, late, misdirected or incomplete entries. 

15. The organisers reserve the right to change the terms, rules, regulations and criteria of the SYPC at any time.

16. The organisers will not be liable for any damage or injuries that accompany or result from your participation in this events.

Investigate IT by IDA Infocomm Club Ambassadors (Recommended for Lower Secondary Students)

Organised and run by the IDA Infocomm club Ambassadors, Investigate IT aims to expose students to a range of IT skills. Students will attend short mini workshops that will teach them basic aspect of various IT skills, such as video editing, website creation and 3D modelling. They will then use these skills to complete a set of pre-ordered tasks, in the format of an online amazing race, known as a URL Challenge. All participant will receive a certificate of  participation.

Capacity :100 lower secondary students (first-come-first-served) 50 seats! Hurry and register now!

Dear media-club members,

There will be training on 19th May(Thursday) at 3pm and in Computer Lab 1. There will also be training on 26th May and 2 more on the last week before school reopens. Please book your holidays and try to be back in Singapore by 21st June.

There's a photography competition on URA-NYAA "I Love Singapore!"
The deadline for submission is 20th May 2011. The theme is to capture the character of the place with people enjoying the facilities at these iconic sites(Marina Bay, Singapore River and Bras Besah). Students who are interested must show their photos to Mr Ng by Wednesday, 18th May 2011.

CCA will start at 3.30p.m., do not be late!
Those with your own DSLR (for photography course), please bring it along with you.
People with speech day rehearsal will go for the rehearsal then return to the computer lab for cca until 6.30p.m.

Consent Form Please!

Please remember to hand in your edusave consent form(for singaporean students) to any media club teacher and cash payment (for PRs and foreign students) to Mr Xavier Ng ONLY on Monday 28th March.

Please be informed that any student who has not handed in the edusave form or cash for the training will not be allowed to start the training on the 31st. He/She will be asked to travel back home to get the neccessary forms/cash before he is about to start.

There will be Media Club Training next Thursday, 31st March from 3.30 - 6pm at Com Lab 1. Photography students will start their first session with the external trainers from Popularworld. Please bring your own DSLR cameras if you own one (any brand will do).

Multi-media Camp 2011

Students are to report at the Growth room by 7.30am(latest). The attire will be CCA tee with PE shorts and school shoes. You also are reminded to bring a pair of slippers and another set of PE attire(PE shirt & shorts).
You are allow to wear FBT shorts if you do not have enough PE shorts. Students that have not pay for their lunch, $2.50, are reminded to pay on Monday. Failure to do so will not receive their food. Groupings for the camp will be released on the day itself and students are not allow to switch to other groups. You are encouraged to keep your electronic gadgets at home as we are not responsible for any thief cases. "Escaping" from the camp will be considered as truancy and they have to attend 3 days of PC. Anyway, attendance will be taken at the end of the day before dismissal so there is no point trying to escape during the camp. Students that are either sick or traveling overseas must produce MC or the stamp on the passport which shows that you have traveled overseas.
Do cooperate with the leaders so that we could end everything by 4.30pm.

Students taking the Photography Course will be taking photos for school events this year. Those students taking Videography Course will be taking videos but some students may be asked to do duty as Photographers.

Students taking Videography course will also be attending a 3hour Photography session conducted by Canon.  Date will be confirmed later. The training will take place on non-CCA day (most probably on Thursday).
